Interwoven: New Works by Bret Philpot

Living in New Mexico creates a variety of complex inspirations for me. From her rich, deep culture and magnificent natural elements that capture the sense. To her abundance of beautiful Indigenous patterns and textures found in the local basketry, weaving and textiles. To the unique quality and clarity of the light that bestows itself here. All of these factors and innumerable others contribute to the emotional stimulants that have driven much of the work in this latest series. Balanced with my life-long love of music against the archaic earthiness of the land, this show represents the connectivity of the past with the future. Music is nearly always present while painting, juxtaposed against the symbols and expressions of antiquity. The result, I hope, is a contemporary body of work that deeply honors its inspirations and embraces the present.
