The Frequency of Light
Everything in existence is vibration and frequency, including matter, sound, light, color and emotion. It is the frequency of light that I’m most concerned with in my paintings, and the emotional effects it can have on the the viewer. Light can be the visible kind that includes a range of frequencies spanning the entire visible spectrum of colors. Or it can be the unseen kind, like the light people describe when having a spiritual experience. Sunlight is the source of energy for most life forms on Earth. Studies have shown that in higher animals, there is some sort of energy that ignites as a spark of light at the instance of conception, the moment a new life is created. So it can be said that life and light are deeply interconnected, both physically and in ways that may be considered metaphysical. I try to capture light in all of it’s forms, in both the seen and unseen realms.
My work is inspired by the interconnectedness of all things, aiming to convey a sense of the place where science and spirituality intersect. I’m fascinated by such things as supernova explosions and other wonders of the universe, mathematical formulas such as the Fibonacci Sequence expressed in nature, the geometry of sound made visible, and the ever changing play of light, shadow and color across the earth, skies and oceans. I seek to transmit through my art a sense of the divine order, light and consciousness that permeates all of existence.
Color and the vibrational and emotional effect it has on the viewer is an important part of my work, with harmonic and complementary color compositions meticulously built from many layers of paint. I work in acrylic, incorporating diatomaceous earth mixed with mediums to create heavily textured surfaces with expressive brush strokes that add movement, energy and an organic quality.
