My art reflects my beliefs about the nature of the Universe and the interconnectedness of all things. I’m inspired by light, color and energy, patterns from biology, geometry and physics, by the Earth and Cosmos and by the intersection of spirituality and science.

I believe that there are unseen patterns and structures existing in multiple dimensions across

multiple universes, surrounding, connecting and influencing everything in the material and non-material realms. My aim as an artist is to capture the essence of those unseen structures and bring them forth into the visible physical world in the form of colors, patterns and images.

The inspirations for my images include such things as the Fibonacci Sequence and other mathematical structures seen in nature, supernova explosions and other wonders of the cosmos, the study of sound made visible, the patterns on the skins of animals, chemical diffusion reaction patterns, visible and invisible light and particle physics phenomena.

I primarily work in acrylic, incorporating diatomaceous earth (DE) mixed with mediums to create heavily textured surfaces with expressive brush strokes that add movement, energy and an organic quality. Color and the vibrational and emotional effect it has on the viewer is an important part of my work, with harmonic and complementary color compositions meticulously built from several layers of translucent and opaque paint. I also do digital paintings similar to my acrylic paintings in their many layers of color and texture, as well as digital color drawings that are hard edge in style and very detailed, incorporating patterns from nature, both mathematical and organic.

Shan grew up in Thailand, Hong Kong and Hawaii, traveling the world with her globe-trotting multi-national, artistic parents. She earned her BFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, with honors and a full scholarship. She and her husband, Daniel Feldman, spent many years in Los Angeles running a graphic design, illustration and art licensing studio with several employees and national and international clients. Their licensing program featured Shan’s art on hundreds of products sold around the world, most notably in several boutiques in Japan devoted exclusively to her licensed products. Shan and Dan now happily live in Santa Fe, NM, where Shan focuses full time on her fine art practice.
