The night before Karine Swenson was born, her mother was on top of the garage, painting the exterior of their house. Was it that in utero memory that lead to her life as an artist? It’s hard to say. One thing is certain, Swenson feels the most at peace when she is either in the studio, or outdoors enjoying the natural world.

Swenson grew up in South Dakota. She has a B.A. of art from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Swenson also spent one short semester at UNM, where she took painting, art history and sculpture. She has been a full-time artist for the past 16 years.
After college, she moved to Colorado, where she met her husband. They have had the great fortune to live in many beautiful places: Evergreen, Colorado, Maui, Hawaii, Salida, Colorado, and Joshua Tree, California. Now they live just south of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
