Complex conversations between pattern, color and nature reveal interrelated and overlapping realities, and provide one’s own perceptual experiences. This complex dialogue is built through slow emergent structuring, until the static properties of pictorial exploration reveal a mystical dimensionality that supports, elevates, and explains the enduring wisdom dormant in nature. When can a heart reveal its true essence? By showing the intimate depths of its chambers? When can a spider, a snake, a fish, a rabbit explain and justify its existence? How can their inherent nobility be animated when it is normally lost in the stream of visual bombardment? Can their form be summoned in a resolute manner, to provide respite from chaos and offer circumstances conducive to absorbing and understanding their higher meaning?
Allowing multiple languages to investigate each other, interact without inhibition, and to relate coherently if not poetically to each other and the whole is more than a juggling act. It is an act of faith, an act of trusting, an act of surrender. There is a point, deep into a painting, where the thinking mind is overwhelmed, flees the scene, and a very different mindset moves the work to completion. This mindset never reveals its mystery to me, and its choices, methods, and tenacity fill me with awe. I have learned to sail its seas with deep humility and allow its majestic voice to go uncensored.
The paintings in this exhibition are the result of a shared dream with the natural world, where personal imagination gets absorbed into a vast mystical imagination, suggesting a benevolently structured realm of enduring sanctity.
