Thetis was a sea goddess and the leader of the Nereids, possessing the gift of prophesy and the power to change her shape at will. Originally, this piece was intended to tell a story about a group of sea nymphs, yet I chose to hone the focus on Thetis in several poses that depict her emotional state after attempts to protect her son, Achilles, during the Trojan War.
Her name is still connected to the Ancient Greek words “thesis” (creation)…and “tethe” (nurse).
