In the late 1980’s and nineties I became aware of yet another famine that was permeating Africa. The paradox of the birthplace of civilization under attack caused me to wonder why the third world was always teetering on disaster. The schism between the third world and the first world seemed never ending. I depict a malnourished mother with her dead infant. She is unable to save her child from the fate she cannot change.
