Inspired by painting and film, I am constantly observing the way light falls upon a subject. Here I am inspired by horror films with sharp contrasts of light and shadow. The cool metal blade points to the frightened, disfigured face from the beam cast upon it. Is this character a victim ready to act in self-defense or a mad aggressor ready to pounce? The blade pressed to the lips keeps tight a secret. Creating these images were form of catharsis in these troubling times. These photos are actually fun to do. It’s a kind of acting. You never know what you will get when you check your camera when you are done, and the results are always surprising.
