Throughout the summer of 2020, social unrest seized the nation with protests erupting over the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by police. Demonstrations continued into the fall, challenging the rightful winner of the presidential election. In this photograph, a line of police officers walk along a Fifth Avenue sidewalk with a boarded up shop in the background. As I stood on the sidelines of this protest, “Make Every Vote Count”, I noticed the slow but steady march of police in the shadows. I felt the plea for the “Love” that someone had graffitied on the wood panel that was important to the fractured city.
