The last in my current series on classical works and greek mythology. Inspired by Caravaggio’s work of the same subject, the tragic tale of a monstrously proud youth fatally attracted to himself and the exploration of the nightmarish depths of an anguished soul. A lad in contemporary dress gazes in rapture at his own image reflected in a pool. According to Ovid, Narcissus killed himself in desperation over his inability to possess his watery reflection, whereupon the gods changed his blood into the flower that now bears his name.
