At the advent of COVID, many people--especially those with children--fled New York City leaving many interesting items behind in their wake. At the same time, public construction sites came to a standstill. I stumbled across an abandoned doll not far from my home that was lying next to a pile of unfinished roadwork. Each time I walked by, the doll was a little different. The first time I discovered her, she was stripped bare and lying next to a surgical mask like it was a life raft while floating on top of a pile of late summer leaves. Another time the doll was buried underneath a sparkling Supergirl dress and hovering at her feet were a bag of croissants.
