Fernando Zúñiga’s work emerges through play. Using animals and pop culture characters, he explores human issues such as truth, conscience, decadence, and cruelty—elements that surround us all. Among these themes, evolution stands out most prominently, symbolized by the dinosaur. This creature represents both personal transformation and the broader evolution of the species. His work navigates the edges between the rational and the irrational, the known and the unknown. From the union of these opposites, a third element is born—an alchemical result of their tension.

In this process, the act of painting becomes increasingly vital, with the artwork arising as a natural consequence of that experience. Risk is the central force that gives his work its distinct power. His obsessive use of charcoal becomes a poetic gesture, evoking the profound transformation any object or being undergoes under pressure—much like how carbon, under extreme heat and pressure, becomes something entirely new.

Fernando Zúñiga—also known as Fer—has exhibited in Florida, California, New Mexico, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, and Madrid. His works are part of private collections across the globe.
