Joe Lawton’s travels have taken him to Central and South America, Asia, Europe, and across America. Using both a Leica and a medium format camera, Lawton has captured quiet, understated, lyrical moments pulled from everyday life.

Lawton has taught photography at Fordham University for over thirty-five years, as well as varying stints at Hunter College, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Arts. His photographs have been published and exhibited both nationally and internationally, and he has received grants from Light Work at Syracuse University and the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies. His photographs are included in private and public collections.

Lawton holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Colorado and an MFA in photography from Yale University. His photographs from the New York State Fair have been published in Contact Sheet 108 by Light Work and his book, Plain Sight, by waal-boght press.
